There are three types of Police Record Checks in Ontario:
Criminal Record Check
Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check
Vulnerable Sector Check - this is the document that would be desired by a potential employer for a person working with children or vulnerable people.
Although not required for membership, ORMTA recommends that as independent teachers and business owners, acquiring and maintaining a Vulnerable Sector Check is good practice. Contact your regional police service for more information on how to obtain a check.

An email scam has a number of common markers, where the sender:
Asks you to contact them by email only
Asks you to purchase a gift card or mailing list
Inquires about lessons without being specific (never mentions the instrument you teach or even asks what instrument you teach)
Wants to book numerous lessons throughout the week for a limited time only
Is trying to give away an expensive instrument for free
Will have poor grammar
If you believe you have received an email scam, do not reply and never make any purchases or send money. Mark the message as spam/phishing or report it. Read more on how to spot a scam and report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre here.

If emails are not arriving in your inbox or junk/spam folders, your email provider may be marking our emails as dangerous and not allowing them to get through. The best way to make sure you always receive our emails is to add the following domains to your safe senders list:
@ormta.org
@membershipworks.orgAdding domains to your safe senders list will be a different process for each email provider. You can conduct an internet search to find instructions (for example, "how to add domains to a safe senders list in Gmail") or contact your email provider for assistance.
Your mailing list preferences can also be updated any time under the “Emails” heading in your ORMTA member profile.
