ORMTA Cover Art Contest

ORMTA is turning 90 in 2026!

In celebration, we are pleased to announce a Cover Art Contest for Notes Magazine. Students of ORMTA teachers are welcome to submit artwork on the theme of “Music in Canada.” There will be one winner in each of the three age groups and each winner’s piece will be featured on the cover of a Notes Magazine issue in 2025-2026.

Rules & Regulations

  • Entry to this contest is limited to students of ORMTA members in good standing

  • Students must be Canadian citizens or residents of Canada

  • Entry will be an original 2-D piece of artwork using any medium. Digital works are allowed with the exception of AI assisted imagery

  • Artwork must be the original work of the student

  • Artwork must relate to the theme of “Music in Canada”

  • Artwork may be square or rectangular (portrait or landscape oriented)

  • Student names must not be visible on the artwork

  • One entry per student

Eligibility

Categories

There are 3 categories of entry:

Group 1
Ages 5-9

Group 2
Ages 10-13

Group 3
Ages 14-17

  • Application and artwork must be submitted online (see below).

  • There is no fee to participate

  • Artwork must be uploaded as a high resolution image file. You may scan or photograph your piece but it must be level/not slanted

  • Deadline for entry is October 1, 2025

Application

  • Winners will be announced by October 15, 2025

  • Winners will be chosen by ORMTA Provincial Council and their decision is final

  • There will be a 1st place winner for each group

Results & Prizes

  • Will have their artwork published on the ORMTA website and featured on the cover of Notes Magazine.

    • The Group 1 winner’s artwork will be published in the fall 2025 issue

    • The Group 2 winner’s artwork will be published in the spring 2026 issue

    • The Group 3 winner’s artwork will be published in the summer 2026 issue

  • Will receive a $50 scholarship

Winners

* By submitting your entry, participants grant ORMTA the non-exclusive right to publish, reproduce, distribute, and display the entry in any media, including Notes magazine, Accent e-newsletter, the ORMTA website and ORMTA social media channels, without further compensation.
