Willy Weng is a first-year student at Queen’s University studying Life Sciences. Graduated from Bell High School in Ottawa, he has studied piano with Paulette Price for the past 12 years, and completed his ARCT performer’s exam last summer, obtaining the highest mark in the Ottawa region. He also received the Grade 10 RCM Silver Medal. Willy has won all three levels of the ORMTA Student competitions. Last year, he represented the Ottawa region and placed second at provincial. This year he won prestigious Young Artist competition. At age 13, he had the honor of performing a concerto with the Thirteen Strings ensemble, having won the Capital Concerto Competition; this summer he played in the Ottawa Chamber Festival’s Rising Stars concert .Willy has taken masterclasses with notable pianists such as Jon Kimura Parker, Jean-Paul Sevilla, Stéphane Lemelin, Andrew Tunis, and David Jalbert. He has been actively participating in the Kiwanis Music Festival, where he has received numerous scholarships and trophies, including the Musical Arts Club Trophy and several scholarships at this year’s festival. He also performs regularly at the Kanata Music Club and the Ottawa West Junior Music Club.
