Simply Tuner

This free tuning app by Joy Tunes (the makers of Piano Maestro, Simply Piano and Simply Guitar) is an easy and resourceful app for your guitar, bass or ukulele students. Use the chromatic tuner freely or switch to a more guided method that shows an image of the headstock (with labelled tuning pegs) and highlights one string at a time as you tune. Guided tunings are available for guitar, 12-string guitar, ukulele, or bass. Choosing from a list of alternate tunings also provides guides for left-handed instruments or other similar instruments (ie. baritone ukulele or dobro). The app also includes a very handy chord library and the option to play along to some songs using your guitar.

Download Simply Tuner from the App Store.

The Piano Puzzler Podcast

There are several places to listen to this short weekly series - Classical Radio Stations, Podcast, or Website. The talented Bruce Adolphe spins a familiar melody with a specific piano composer's idioms and styles to create a surprising musical arrangement. It's a fun, and sometimes challenging, way to spend a few minutes each week. Try to guess the tune and the composer, learn more about the history, harmony, and composition techniques of the masters, and hear some beautiful music.
