ORMTA Competitions & Scholarships

Each spring, the ORMTA showcases some of the most talented music students from across Ontario. These students qualified at a local level before going on to these provincial level competitions. Winners of the ORMTA competitions can go on to represent Ontario at the CFMTA competitions.


Young Artist Competition
(ARCT & above)
In selecting a winner for this competition, the performance, presentation and STYLISTIC BALANCE of the programme will be considered. The programme must represent more than one composer and period, include a Canadian work and be suitable for a tour recital.

Scholarships:
First Place - The Yamaha Canada Scholarship
Second Place - The ORMTA Provincial Council Members’ Alumni Scholarship


Provincial Student Vocal Competition
(Grade 10 & ARCT)
Competitors must perform at least three selections in two or more languages. Repertoire should be chosen carefully to reflect the experience and maturity of the student. The style and suitability for the performer as well as stylistic balance of the programme will be considered in the adjudicator’s decision.

Scholarships:
First Place - The Court Stone Memorial Scholarship
Second Place - The Music for Young Children Scholarship


Provincial Student Instrumental Competition
(Grade 10 & ARCT)
The programme must be at a level of difficulty equal to Grade 10 and/or Associate, but need not be taken from a recognised examination syllabi. Competitors may play two or more pieces within the time limit. The stylistic balance of the programme will be considered in the adjudication.

Scholarships:
First Place - The Hugheen Ferguson Scholarship
Second Place - The ORMTA Scholarship
contributed by individual donors & members of ORMTA


Esther Su Memorial Award

The Esther Su Memorial Award is awarded, at the adjudicators' discretion, to a student who has shown special promise in the competitions.
